The clients main request was to stop the front yard slope from flowing into the downhill street during rainstorms. What started as an erosion control project, turned into a stormwater capture/ dry-creek/ retention pond. Giant boulders were brought in to create a natural surrounding. Stone caged steel gabion walls were integrated amongst the boulders as a neighborhood seat wall. Taller gabion walls served as a pondless waterfall feature, within the dry detention pond. Plant palette is primarily native with the detention pond vegetation planted with specific filtering phytoremediation plants. The boulder dry creek serves both as a functional stormwater capture system during seasonal rains and a neighborhood conversation stop, inspiring community discussion.
