Renovation of a Spanish courtyard lap pool lot in Santa Monica included adding new brick pathways to allow for easier access to new garden areas surrounding the pool. A small area was carved out of the existing pathways to create a cook's potage garden, filled with kitchen herbs, sages, lavenders and scented roses. The newly laid brick pathway bordered a small bosque of lemon trees. Agaves and grasses lined a drainage swale made from Mexican black rock. The high point of the project was incorporating a bird habitat area for the owners who are active bird watching enthusiasts. A large granite bowled disappearing fountain attracts birds and provides a visual focal point from the kitchen windows. Surrounding vegetation was chosen to increase pollinators and compliment the bird habitat.
