What began as a simple backyard makeover for a young couple, quickly became all about the birds.
A young couples first home looking to blend their modern lifestyle into a natural setting to observe pollinators and wildlife habitat from backyard seating areas on a congested corner lot. Mature screening shrubs and California Sycamore trees were brought in to add privacy and give a sense of space off of the busy street.  Japanese maples surrounded by low growing cypress, and native grasses surrounded the dry creek swale running through the front yard. The rear yard allowed for large asymmetrical concrete block formed walkways to a large outdoor living porch. Low rolling berms planted with native salvias, regional blooms, seeded with native wildflower mix, lead to a low-lying CA native meadow surrounded by redbud trees emptying into a large boulder fountain.  The plant palette was carefully select to supply habitat with food and shelter, as the owners view comfortably from the new shade covered outdoor living porch.
