The South Laguna Beach coastal home facing the bluffs of the ocean and wildlife arroyo open-space to the back, favored breathtaking views of both the sea and arroyo. Design driven by coastal conditions of surrounding Laguna Wilderness Mountain range, Mediterranean summer heat and coastal fog, a private gated entrance courtyard was designed for entertaining outside year-round. A mix of regional and native plants were used for front yard boarders. The backyard viewing deck carefully designed to minimize natural disturbance, cantilevered over the Arroyo for wildlife observation. Restricted native riparian vegetation for the Arroyo lead to an intensive sensitive planting palette as a buffer zone to the regional wildlife corridor. Pollinator plants became the focus of the Arroyo Edge hillside garden to provide seasonal blooms to insure year-round pollination for wildlife.
